Renovation and Extension of Victorian Dwelling

This beautifully reimagined Victorian Dwelling, skilfully revived by the Des Ewing Residential Architects team, seamlessly marries the essence of old-world charm with modern sophistication. A striking glass link serves as a symbolic bridge between the contrasting styles of the original Victorian villa and its contemporary extension, ensuring a harmonious blend between past and present.

In the contemporary extension, large vertical windows pay homage to the traditional sliding sash windows of the original house, while the use of clay facing red brick and natural slate effortlessly integrates the modern structure with its historic counterpart. Green/grey aluminium windows further enhance this cohesion, matching the colour palette of the timber sliding sash windows.

Inside, the kitchen living space boasts dramatic double-height glazing and a spiral staircase leading to a mezzanine flooded with natural light. Additional design features, such as a frameless glazed rooflight and a secret roof terrace, add layers of intrigue to the home's aesthetic.

A bridge at the first-floor level connects the original home to the contemporary extension, showcasing the double-height exposed brick wall within the glass link—a defining feature that eloquently articulates the project's design intent and underscores its seamless integration of old and new.
